The Emergency Plans Box “EPB” is designed to provide premises plans and information to the Fire & Rescue Service in a recognised format.  As part of the “EPB”, a comprehensive Emergency Response Pack guidance manual is provided which has been carefully prepared by experienced fire service professionals, the Emergency Response Pack guidance manual contains good practice guidelines on the process of preparing premises plans and collating information, including sections on orientation plans, layout & contents and safety & emergency features.

There are many approved codes of practice and guidance documentation that advocate the use of these systems. Please find a few examples below:

  •  Lakanal House Interim Report, Section 5.6.2, “Consideration should be given by fire and rescue authorities as to how risk-critical information on complex and high rise buildings is made readily available to operational firefighters at an incident, e.g. on site in secure premises information boxes…”
  • Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Sleeping Accommodation Guide, Section 7.2 Emergency Plans, “Your emergency plan should be appropriate to your premises and should include…….procedures for meeting the fire and rescue service on their arrival and notifying them of any special risks e.g the location of highly flammable materials”. A PIB will provide this effective provision.
  • Fire and Rescue Service Circular 32/2006 “Fighting Fires in High Rise Buildings” section 3.4 “Consider the use of premise information boxes for making readily available more detailed information concerning the premises for larger buildings or use on commercial premises”
  • BS9999:2008 Annex M highlights information available to the fire service in plans boxes and includes our photoluminescent sticker
  • Other guidance notes available include: -Asbestos at  Work Regulations 2002, Transport, Premises & Facilities, Educational Premises, Factories & Warehouses, Large, Medium & Small Places of Assembly, Offices & Shops, Healthcare Premises, Theatres, Cinemas, Sports Facilities plus much more.
